Health system interventions
In room 1C at 12.10pm Dr Joanna Raven will be presenting an abstract on 'How do you effectively facilitate health systems interventions? Lessons from a management strengthening intervention in Uganda, Ghana and Malawi '.
The paper is by Joanna Raven, Hastings Banda, Kaspar Wyss, Mairead Finn and Tim Martineau - a UK, Malawi, Switzerland & Ireland collaboration.

District health management and performance
Later that day at 2pm, and also in room 1C, Anne Christine Heerdegen presents 'District health management and its association with district performance: a study of six districts in the eastern region of Ghana'. The study aims to examine district health management and its association with health system performance in six districts in the Eastern Region of Ghana. The findings of the study demonstrate individual and institutional capacity needs, and highlight the importance of developing management competencies and skills, as well as positive team dynamics, among health managers at district level.
The paper is based on data collected during our predecessor programme, PERFORM, and is by Anne Christine Heerdegen, Moses Aikins, Samuel Amon, Samuel Agyemang, Jana Gerold, Helen Prytherch and Kaspar Wyss - a Switzerland & Ghana collaboration.
Both sessions are part of track four, health systems, which covers:
- Health and policy system development
- Changing health population profiles including resilience to outbreaks, refugees and internally displaced persons,
- Innovations in funding including health insurance, models for health systems in-country, internal and external funding, problems of catastrophic health expenditure
